Hadronic Interaction Modelling in MINOS
نویسنده
چکیده
The Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation search (MINOS) uses two detectors separated by 735 km to measure a beam of neutrinos created by the Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) facility at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The experiment has recently reported an observation [1] of νμ disappearance consistent with neutrino oscillations. We describe the manner in which the experiment’s results depend on the correct understanding and modeling of hadronic systems.

MINOS will measure the composition of a νμ beam at two locations, 735 km apart, in an effort confirm the (atmospheric) neutrino oscillation hypothesis and measure the mixing parameters ∆m223 and sin 2 (2θ23). Oscillations will be manifested as a difference in the rate and energy spectrum of νμ−CC interactions measured in the two detectors. Because most interactions observed in MINOS are inelast...

متن کاملThe response of Geant4 hadronic models to the study of neutrons produced in proton irradiation to the light materials
Neutron is one of the products of the interaction of high energy protons with light nuclei. Using computational Monte Carlo codes, it is possible to calculate and predict the neutron spectrum, neutron flux, and doses by simulating the system. But the use of different hadronic models in this process can influence the results of these calculations. In this research, the response of the four hadro...

Scintillation detectors are widely used in the experimental setup for the detection of charged particles. These detectors are able to measure the energy and time-of-flight of the charged particles. Also, they can be used to identify the detected particle. The probability of hadronic interaction between the detected particle and the nuclei of the scintillator atoms is one important issue that m...
